About Lighthearts

The software came later. The work has always been systems.

Lighthearts grew from experience helping people and organizations navigate complicated programs, decisions, relationships, and information.

Origin

How Lighthearts began

Sometimes the right response is a program or training engagement. Sometimes it's a data platform or an internal operating system. Sometimes it's a focused product for an everyday problem.

The form changes. The work begins the same way: understand the people involved, clarify what they need to accomplish, and build something that helps.

Structure

A collaborative operating model

Lighthearts is founder-led and brings in trusted specialists based on what the work requires. Ben leads problem definition, product direction, implementation, and client accountability, with clear responsibilities for each collaborator.

Economic development remains Lighthearts' primary commercial field and strongest body of organizational work. The same attention to people and systems also shapes products for reading, family activities, and personal reflection.

Founder experience

Experience that informs Lighthearts

These examples are founder experience—not a claim that every organization listed was a Lighthearts client. Together, they show the operating, public-sector, economic-development, and implementation experience behind the work.

CONNECTED 2024 and 2025

Regional collaboration and convening

At The Connective, Ben co-designed and managed CONNECTED in 2024 and 2025 with a small partner team. Attendance grew from 180 to nearly 300, including city exhibitors in 2025. His broader work included regional workshops and forums connecting government, industry, education, and civic institutions.

Embedded regional implementation

Economic development and implementation

Through Lighthearts Collaborative, Ben serves as an Economic Recovery Corps fellow embedded with WESTMARC. His work connects employer research, regional convening, technology-readiness initiatives, applied training, and public-facing data products.

A human standard for technical work

Lighthearts starts from a belief that people and communities should be understood with complexity, compassion, and curiosity. Data and technology are useful when they help people see more clearly and act more responsibly—not when they flatten local knowledge or replace human judgment.
